Turda - Praid - Romania Salina Turda is a salt mine located in the Cluj County in the heart of Transylvania and is the world’s most spectacular underground formation shaped by people. It’s hugeenough to hide a medieval cathedral. The history of the mine dates back to the 13th century, and the records of salt mining in this area date back to Roman times. Even now, the salt from Turda Salt Mine could cover the salt requirement for the entire planet for 60 years, if it were necessary. The Praid mine is a large salt mine located in central Romania in Harghita County, close to Praid. Praid represents one of the largest salt reserves in Romania having estimated reserves of 50 billion tonnes of salt. It has a microclimate, with an average temperature of around 16° C, rich in ozone, very similar to that of Turda’s salt mine. The Praid Salt Mine is like a completely different underground world, 50 levels, around 120 meters, above the surface. Tourists are being transported to the center of the mine with buses down a 1.2 km long tunnel.
