Sibiu - Transylvania - Romania

Sibiu (Cibin), a town in Transylvania is one of the most important cultural centres of Romania. It is also one of the most well preserved medieval cities in Transylvania. The town was refounded by the Saxons (German) settlers brought there by the king Géza II of Hungary. In the 14th century it was already an important trade centre. In 1699, after the Ottomans withdrew to his base of power in Hungary and Transylvania, the town became capital of Principality of Transylvania.
The most important tourist attractions of Sibiu are the Lutheran Cathedral of Saint Mary and the Bridge of Lies - a pedestrian bridge that is located in the historic center of the city. Many of the houses on the south and east sides of the city look as though they have eyes peering from their roofs. It gives the impression that the buildings never sleep and the houses are staring at you.
