Corvin Castle - Hunedoara - Romania

Corvin Castle (Castelul Corviniloris) a Gothic-style castle in Hunedoara, looks like something straight out of a fairytale. The most spectacular castle in Romania, was built by the Anjou family on the site of a former Roman camp. The castle served as a fortress until the mid-14th century when it became the residence of Transylvania's voivode, Iancu de Hunedoara (Ioannes Corvinus in Latin, Hunyadi in Hungarian).
Corvin Castle is split into three large areas: The Knight’s Hall, the Diet Hall, and the circular stairways, and they are surrounded by both circular and rectangular towers, that were used for both defense and as a prison. The castle's courtyard features a 100-ft. well dug into stone, in the 15th Century. Legend says that the wheel was dug by three Turkish prisoners who were promised freedom when job was done. It took them 15 years and 28 days to reach water.

The Botanical Garden from Simeria is located in Hunedoara country, about 20 km from Corvin Castle. The garden is an arboretum extended on a huge surface of 70 ha. The place collected some of the most valuable and rare exotic plants, currently including 2165 different species.
