El Nido - North Palawan - Philippines El Nido is a coastal settlement on the Philippines island of Palawan. Situated in Bacuit Bay, El Nido, covering a land area of 465 square kilometres, is bordered by theLinapacan Strait in the north, the Sulu Sea in the east, and the South China Sea in the west. It is composed of 45 islands and islets, each has its own unique geological formations. Limestone cliffs form a Karst backdrop similar to those found in Ha Long Bay, Krabi and Guilin. El Nido is a popular destination for locals during the long holidays of Holy Week but, until recently, has been relatively unknown to foreign tourists. Before El Nido became a tourist destination, fishing and harvesting swift nests ("Nido") were the main source of income. |
